A typical steel beam splice connection utilizes a shear plate with bolts and beam web stiffeners. The connection maintains a one-half inch gap between beam ends and incorporates five-sixteenths inch and one-quarter inch fillet welds. Stiffener plates are matched to the shear plate thickness and welded full height on both sides where indicated on the structural plans.
