A steel column bears on a steel base plate anchored to a concrete footing with anchor bolts embedded in the concrete. A layer of foam is placed over the bolts so the concrete does not bond to the plates or bolts. The assembly sits within a concrete blockout surrounded by a concrete slab on grade, with one and one-half inches of non-shrink grout beneath the base plate.
