A wide-flange steel beam supports a concrete slab poured over metal deck running parallel to the beam. Headed shear studs are welded through the metal deck to the top flange of the beam for composite action. Additional number three longitudinal reinforcing bars are placed in the low flutes of the deck at thirty-six inches on center specifically at service deck conditions, maintaining a one-inch clearance. The main slab reinforcement sits above the deck with three-quarters of an inch clearance, while the overall deck assembly maintains a two-inch clearance at service deck conditions.
