This assembly features two hollow structural section columns, one vertical and one raked, supported by a concrete plinth. The columns are welded to a one-inch thick A572-50 steel base plate with five-sixteenths inch fillet welds. The base plate is secured to the concrete footing using four one-inch diameter F1554 Grade 36 anchor rods, with one and one-half inches of non-shrink grout provided beneath the plate. A half-inch thick by seventeen-inch diameter A572-50 steel plate with weep holes is positioned at the base of the columns. All steel embedded in the concrete plinth must be coated with asphaltic emulsion for corrosion protection.
