A structural stair stringer, sized per plan, bears on a hollow structural section steel post of size 4 x 4 x 1/4 unless noted otherwise. A 1/4-inch bearing plate welded with a 3/16-inch fillet weld sits between the stringer and the top of the post, secured with two 3/4-inch diameter machine bolts. Internal 3/8-inch thick stiffener plates are welded inside the channel stringer web above the post supports with specified edge and interior spacing dimensions.
