A structural steel connection detail features a beam framing into a column web with continuous plates extending to the edges of the column flange. A typical shear plate connects the beam web, slotted to accommodate the continuity plate thickness where required. A drilled hole in the shear plate provides a diameter equal to the plate thickness plus one-quarter inch at deeper beams. A supplementary plan view details skewed beam web configurations with varying skew angles and corresponding weld requirements.
