A sixteen gauge continuous bent plate spans between columns at the roof expansion joint, with the roof deck lapped over the bent plate on both joist chords. At similar conditions without an expansion joint, the bent plate is omitted and the roof deck is continuous. The joist supplier provides plugs between the top chord angles to transfer shear forces per the deck shear schedule in directions perpendicular and parallel to the joist grid. Fasteners extend through both the roof deck and the bent plate on both joist chords, maintaining a two inch minimum bearing with three inch dimensions on both chords.
