A hollow structural section column splice is detailed for two conditions located four feet above the top of the slab. The same size condition aligns centerlines with a partial joint penetration groove weld of size t-1/8. The stepped size condition transitions from a larger lower hollow structural section column to a smaller upper hollow structural section column using a matching transition plate. Field welds connect the members with complete or partial joint penetration details per the structural drawings.
