An eighteen-gauge continuous bent plate spans between structural columns at the expansion joint location. The joist supplier provides plugs between the top chord angles to transfer shear forces per the deck shear schedule in directions perpendicular and parallel to the joist grid. Fasteners pass through both the metal deck and the bent plate on both joist chords. A minimum two-inch bearing is provided with specific three-inch dimensioning on both chords where the deck and bent plate lap.
