A steel joist splice connection joins adjacent steel joists using a continuous bottom plate and a channel chord tie sized per plan. A 1/4" x 12" x 1'-0" splice plate is welded to the bottom chords with a typical 1/4" fillet weld, while a 3/8" x 2 1/2" x 1'-0" strap plate is centered over the splice between the joists. Additional field welds include 3/16" fillet welds at 12" spacing and 1/8" typical welds at the joists.
