A steel column rests on a base plate, featuring gusset plates attached to the column web and flanges to receive buckling restrained braces. One-half inch thick stiffener plates reinforce the gusset plates at the top and mid-height. Buckling restrained braces connect to the gusset plates via a bolted connection, with bolt size and pattern specified by others. Welds connecting the gusset plates to the column and base plate are seven-sixteenths inch minimum fillet welds, while other connections utilize five-sixteenths inch fillet welds. The gusset plate thickness is a minimum of one and one-half inches.
