Trench excavation limits and backfill specifications run parallel to a foundation footing. A minimum ten-foot horizontal clearance is maintained from the footing face to the trench excavation. The bottom of the trench excavation shall not extend below the specified slope line. Backfill is placed per the soils report requirements. The contractor is responsible for shoring, sheathing, or otherwise maintaining the excavation sides from cave-ins until all backfill is completed.
