A steel drag beam connects to a concrete masonry unit shear wall using a one-half-inch thick steel end plate spanning the wall width. The end plate features a five-sixteenth-inch fillet weld utilizing E80 electrodes, with a contractor option to field weld the drag beam. Three rows of two number five A706 reinforcing bars weld directly to the embed plate and lap with horizontal wall steel inside the bond beams. Three bond beams occur at the beam elevation, each containing two number five reinforcing bars spaced at eight inches typical. The beam pocket is grouted solid after installation, and a bearing connection is provided per plan.
