A structural steel connection joins beams to a hollow structural section column using a knife plate and bolted shear connection. The vertical column continues through the assembly and is topped with a cap plate sized to match the column wall thickness and installed flush with the top of steel. The knife plate thickness is determined per schedule A with additional information per typical shear plate connections. Beams frame into the column on both sides with typical edge distances of five and a half inches. Clearances measure three and a half inches at wide flange members and two and a half inches at the knife plate per typical notes.
