Steel columns are joined using a partial joint penetration groove weld with dimensioning criteria based on the thickness of the thinner column minus one-sixteenth of an inch, maintaining a three-sixteenths inch minimum. Welds on exposed structural steel surfaces are to be ground smooth. Erection aids are supplied by the fabricator and must be removed after column splicing is complete.
D NOTE: GRIND WELD SMOOTH IF EXPOSED STL = THINNER COL THICKNESS - 1/16", 3/16" MIN D ERECTION AIDS BY FABRICATOR. ERECTION AIDS TO BE REMOVED AFTER COLUMN SPLICING. PJP
