A hollow structural section beam frames into the web of a wide flange beam using three-eighths inch thick stiffener plates welded to each side of the hollow structural section beam. The top of the hollow structural section beam is coped as required. A one-quarter inch minimum fillet weld connects the stiffener plates to the hollow structural section beam, and a one-quarter inch fillet weld connects the stiffener plates to the wide flange beam on three sides. The hollow structural section beam matches the larger side of the hollow structural section unless noted otherwise.
