A continuous wide-flange steel beam bears directly on a hollow structural section column sized per plan, maintaining a one-inch clear space beneath the beam bottom flange and a one-quarter-inch shim space. Two L8x4x1/2 angles are bolted to each side of the hollow structural section column with two three-quarter-inch diameter A325 bolts positioned at the bottom of vertical short slot holes. Three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to both sides of the beam web with three-sixteenths-inch fillet welds on three sides. Fillet welds of five-sixteenths-inch size secure the connection assembly.
