This assembly reinforces rectangular or circular steel deck openings up to 12 inches in diameter or width. A 12-gauge steel strengthening plate is centered over the opening and secured to the steel deck. The plate is attached at each ridge with 1 1/4-inch long, 3/8-inch seam welds. Along the perimeter of the plate, 2-inch long, 3/8-inch seam welds are spaced at 12 inches on center. A minimum 6-inch clearance is maintained from the opening edge to the deck ridge, with a typical 3/4-inch offset for weld placement. These reinforced openings are not intended to support mechanical equipment.
