A hollow structural section stair stringer connects to a glued-laminated timber beam using a three-quarter-inch thick steel plate welded to the end of the stringer. Three-eighths-inch thick plates are welded to each side of the hollow structural section stringer with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides. Six one-inch diameter A307 bolts pass through the connection, secured with one-quarter-inch square washers on the face of the timber beam. A three-quarter-inch gap is maintained between the stringer end plate and the timber member.
