A heavy structural steel truss chord intersects a vertical column and connects via a large gusset plate measuring three and one-quarter inches thick. The diagonal member aligns with a work point at the column intersection and is secured with a bolted splice and complete joint penetration welds at the flange plates. Additional stiffener plates match the width, thickness, and grade of the smaller flange plates. Typical bolted splices tie the chord segments together across the connection zone with explicit spacing and edge clearances. Complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom tie the assembly rigidly into the structural framing.
