A hollow structural section column receives wide flange beams framing from both sides via bolted shear tabs. The connection uses a three-eighths inch plate with standard holes for seven-eighths inch diameter A325-N bolts, which are snug tightened. The column includes a slot sized one-sixteenth inch wider than the plate, with trim plates applied at one-sided connections. A one-quarter inch cap plate with a seal weld all around is provided at the top of the hollow structural section column where applicable. Five-sixteenths inch fillet welds tie the shear tabs to the wide flange beam webs typically.
