A steel beam bears on a steel cap plate welded to the top of a steel column. A beam web stiffener or beam web connection plate is provided on each side of the beam web, secured with bolts and quarter-inch fillet welds. The cap plate is welded to the steel column with quarter-inch fillet welds applied to three sides. The structural member sizes are determined per the structural plan and column schedule.
