An eighteen-gauge continuous bent plate spans between columns at the roof expansion joint, bearing on a steel beam and additional joists placed per plans. The metal roof deck laps over the bent plate on both joist chords, with fasteners specified per the deck schedule penetrating both the deck and the bent plate. The joist supplier provides plugs between the top chord angles to transfer shear forces in directions perpendicular and parallel to the joist. A two-inch minimum bearing is maintained at the grid line with three-inch dimensioned spacing on both chords.
