An HSS beam frames into the face of an HSS column utilizing L4x4x1/2 structural angles spanning the full column width at the top and bottom flanges. A maximum one-half-inch clearance is maintained between the beam end and the column face. The angles are welded to the column with quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides typical top and bottom. The beam webs and flanges are secured to the angles using five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on both sides typical, with larger side of HSS used unless otherwise noted.
