A hollow structural section column bears directly onto a wide flange steel beam via a one-half-inch thick bearing plate welded at the base. The connection is secured with four minimum five-eighth-inch diameter bolts spaced at the beam gauge. A one-quarter-inch fillet weld joins the bearing plate to the assembly, with centerlines aligned between the beam and the column.
