Vertical reinforcing bars within a shear wall are connected using mechanical couplers positioned above the foundation or slab level. Splices are staggered vertically with alternating offsets of one foot to comply with structural requirements. The mechanical couplers conform to Type 2 per ACI 318-14 Section 18.2.7, providing a connection capacity exceeding 125 percent of the specified yield strength of the connected reinforcing bar while developing its full tensile strength.
SHEAR WALL BOTTOM OF SLAB TOP OF FDN OR TOP OF SLAB SHEAR WALL REINF (SEE ELEVATION) SPLICE W/ LENTON COUPLER OR APPROVED EQUAL; STAGGER SPLICES TYP 2'-0" 1'-0" 1'-0" NOTE: MECHANICAL SPLICE TO TYPE 2 PER ACI 318-14 SECTION 18.2.7 CONNECTION SHALL HAVE CAPACITY EXCEEDING 125% OF YIELD OF REINFORCING BAR CONNECTED & SHALL DEVELOP THE SPECIFIED TENSILE STRENGTH OF THE OTHER BAR.
