A structural steel column bears on a five-eighths-inch bearing plate set over one inch of non-shrink grout atop a reinforced concrete spread footing. Four five-eighths-inch anchor rods secure the base with plate washers and nuts top and bottom, utilizing one-half-inch oversized holes. All steel below the slab is coated with asphaltic emulsion. The concrete footing is four feet six inches wide by one foot four inches deep, reinforced with five number five bars top and bottom each way with specified concrete clear cover. General notes mandate centering footings on the column above and resting them on undisturbed or compacted material designed for fifteen hundred pounds per square foot bearing pressure.
