This construction joint for a composite floor slab requires all slab reinforcement to remain continuous through the joint. Supplemental reinforcement is provided at the joint, consisting of number three bars spaced at eighteen inches on center if the slab depth is less than two and one-half inches, or number four bars spaced at eighteen inches on center if the slab depth is two and one-half inches or greater. The metal deck is specified to span in either direction, and slab reinforcement must be lapped across the joint location.
