This structural steel connection joins a hollow structural section member to a wide flange beam support. A three-eighths-inch cap plate is positioned on each side and extends a minimum of three-eighths of an inch past the edge of the hollow structural section slot. The hollow structural section is slotted at its centerline to fit top and bottom shear plates of thickness t. Erection bolts are provided as required, and five-sixteenth-inch welds secure the cap plate to the hollow structural section on each side. Weld sizes and plate thicknesses are detailed per the connected beam schedule, with a maximum two-inch offset dimension.
