A future equipment stanchion stands above the roof level supported by an incoming wide-flange beam (W14 minimum) framing into a structural roof beam. The stanchion is capped with a one-inch-thick cap plate at each end and joined with complete-joint-penetration welds to the top and bottom flanges. One-half-inch stiffener plates are welded to the web with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. A continuous plate matching the incoming beam flange width and thickness is welded below. Concrete on steel deck surrounds the connection up to a maximum height of two feet six inches above the top of steel.
