A steel beam frames into a timber column using a one-half-inch plate with horizontal strand lumber slotted holes, secured by two one-inch diameter grade A490 slip-critical bolts. The connection plate welds to a three-quarter-inch by twelve-inch embedment plate equipped with six one-half-inch diameter by six-inch shear studs spaced at six inches gauge. Additional number five reinforcing bars are placed at four inches on center between the outer rows of studs. Standard holes are provided in the beam web, and all plates maintain a minimum yield strength of fifty kilopounds per square inch.
