This connection supports a glulam beam on a steel column using a 10-inch by 1/2-inch hollow structural section cap welded to a 3/4-inch by 10-inch diameter A572-50 steel base plate. The glulam beam is secured by 1/2-inch A572-50 steel side plates on each side, which are attached to the beam with 3/8-inch by 3/8-inch clips and bolted through standard holes. The side plates are welded to the hollow structural section cap with 5/16-inch fillet welds, while the cap is welded to the base plate with 5/16-inch fillet welds. The steel column is supported by a peeler log as specified in the arch drawings. The assembly is typical at interior supports.
