A vertical steel guardrail post is welded to the top of a stair stringer channel using three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. A one-quarter-inch thick stiffener plate is provided at the handrail post typical location. The stair fabricator must provide a one-and-one-half-inch diameter steel pipe metal rail on top of the stringer in accordance with the California Building Code and architectural drawings, with shop drawings required.
