A concrete pit section is set into a foundation mat slab, featuring vertical concrete shear walls and a slab-on-grade transition. The base slab is reinforced with number six bars at twelve inches spacing top and bottom, while the pit walls utilize number six bars each way, typically each side unless noted otherwise. A one-quarter-inch amplitude roughened construction joint is specified at the wall-to-slab interface, supplemented by typical shear wall dowels as detailed on plan. The pit depth measures seven feet one inch from the top of the mat to the underside of the adjacent slab-on-grade, with local soil conditions and elevator manufacturer requirements verified in the field.
