An HSS beam frames into a wide-flange column with a cap plate and welded connection details. A cap plate is provided at the top of the column, with a thickness equal to the greater of the flange thickness plus one-quarter inch or the second flange thickness plus one-quarter inch, with a one-inch minimum. The beam is welded to the column on three sides.
