An open-web steel joist bottom chord connects to a pipe, tube, or wide flange column using a three-quarter by six by six inch plate typically welded to the column. An L4x4x3/8 angle, two inches longer than the column depth, is positioned against the column web or flange. The joist bottom chord is left unwelded to the stabilizer plate to allow for movement.
