A dowel laminated timber deck bears directly on a steel beam flange with shear studs omitted at this connection location. An ASTM A36 steel plate measuring 3/4 inch by 18 inches by 1 foot 6 inches is secured with four 3/4-inch by 6-inch grip lag bolts spaced at 4-1/2 inches on center and placed at the middle of the timber width. The manufacturer provides an uplift-resistant connection capable of 5000 pounds allowable stress load transfer from the timber deck to the steel beam flange.
