Open-web steel joists frame into a supporting steel girder with a steel strap plate measuring 3-1/2" x 3/8" x 9" spanning across the top chords. The strap plate is secured to the joist top chords with typical quarter-inch fillet welds. The connection serves as a joist chord tie or drag strut transferring lateral forces across the support line.
