This structural steel connection details a beam framing into a column flange at the top of a column. A cap plate is welded across the top of the column, with its thickness sized as the greater of the framing flange thicknesses TF1 or TF2 plus one-quarter inch, with a one-inch minimum. Continuity plates are aligned with the beam flanges inside the column web, sized using the larger of TF1 or TF2. Shear tabs are provided where required to connect the beam webs to the column flange, secured with bolts. Complete joint penetration welds join the components at the top and bottom flanges typically.
