This structural steel connection details a wide flange beam supported by an HSS or wide flange column per plan. A three-quarter-inch cap plate sized to the beam flange plus one inch minimum is welded to the column. The beam flange connects to the cap plate using either four seven-eighths-inch diameter bolts typically, or four three-quarters-inch diameter bolts for beam flange widths under four and a half inches. A full-depth three-eighths-inch stiffener plate or full-depth shear plate is provided, with five-sixteenths-inch welds securing the beam flange to the cap plate. One-quarter-inch fillet welds secure the components typical, with specific interior and perimeter configurations indicated.
