An HSS beam frames into a wide flange column using top and bottom structural angles dimensioned as L4x4x1/2. The angles connect to the column web or flange with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on both sides. A maximum clearance of one-half inch is maintained between the HSS beam end and the column face. The HSS beam connects to the angles with quarter-inch fillet welds applied to three sides on the larger side of the HSS unless noted otherwise.
