A concrete footing rests directly upon a prepared layer of compacted structural fill with a minimum thickness designated as t. The fill extends horizontally beyond the edges of the footing by a distance equal to half the thickness, denoted as t over two, on each side. The overall footing width is centered above the structural fill layer. The specifications for the compacted structural fill are referenced to the earthwork section of the general structural notes.
