A glulam beam hinge connection features a queen post truss top chord tied with a hollow structural section strut, maintaining a one foot ten inch minimum clearance to the grid. The connection incorporates a half-inch knife plate secured with two three-quarter-inch diameter pins and a three-quarter-inch seat plate dapped into the timber beam. Additional stability is provided by half-inch by six-and-a-half-inch plates and four rows of mass-timber screws at three inches on center, staggered on each side of the knife plate for a total of twelve screws. Five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds are specified at structural steel interfaces with continuous hollow structural section strut ties located typically between locations.
