An encased wide flange steel column extends into a reinforced concrete mat foundation at grid 12. The embedded section features MC7x22.7 channels welded each side of the wide flange with four rows spaced at six inches typical, and a 1 1/4 inch fillet weld top and bottom. Four three-quarter inch diameter by six-inch headed studs are welded to the wide flange flanges at eight inches spacing. Mat foundation edge reinforcing is placed per plan, with interrupted reinforcing bars hooked around the wide flange. Notes permit locally thickening the mat foundation as required for a temporary base plate.
