A structural steel column bears on a base plate secured to a concrete foundation by ASTM F1554 anchor rods fitted with double heavy hex nuts and plate washers. A shear key centered beneath the column transfers lateral loads into the concrete. Two inches of nominal non-shrink grout fills the space beneath the base plate, with blockouts provided as required and filled with non-shrink grout. Welded plate connections and complete joint penetration welds secure the structural elements according to the engineering design.
