A steel beam sized per plan bears upon a steel cap plate whose thickness is specified in the schedule. Three-eighths-inch steel stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web using quarter-inch fillet welds along three sides typically. The beam rests over a steel column aligned to the column centerline, with connecting hardware dimensioned at one and one-half inches.
