A wide flange beam connects to a hollow structural section hanger through a bolted and welded plate assembly. A three-eighths-inch plate aligns with the centerline of the beam and column, secured with typical bolted connections. A one-quarter-inch cap plate with a seal weld all around is provided at the bottom of the hanger where it occurs, aligning the bottom of the hanger with the bottom of the wide flange beam. Retaining plates measuring three inches are positioned at the top and bottom. Fillet welds of one-quarter-inch size are specified at the connection interfaces per the drawing notes.
