Floor joists are sized and spaced per plan and receive a layer of sub-floor sheathing with face grain oriented perpendicular to the supports. Edges of floor openings require boundary nailing, and each four-by-eight-foot sheet must span a minimum of three bearings. Two-by solid blocking is provided between floor joists at a maximum of eight feet on center where two-by wood joists occur. Double joists are installed under all parallel partitions, and two-by full blocking is placed under all perpendicular partitions. Where a second layer of sheathing is used, it is installed with staggered joints in both directions.
