A steel beam frames into a supporting girder web via a shear plate connection using one-inch diameter bolts. Where a beam occurs on one side only, a full-height stiffener plate with a half-inch minimum thickness is added on the far side or the shear plate is extended to the full depth of the girder, requiring one side of the flange to be chipped and ground as necessary. Additional stiffener plates are extended to match the depth for deeper intersecting members. Clearances and edge distances are explicitly dimensioned around the flange and web interfaces.
