An HSS beam connects to a wide-flange column using structural angles welded to both the web and flanges. The top and bottom flange connections use L4x4x1/2 angles sized to the column width minus one and one-half inches, welded with five-sixteenth inch fillet welds on both sides. The web connection uses L4x4x1/2 angles sized to the column depth minus two and one-half times the k-distance. A maximum clearance of one-half inch is maintained between the members. Additional quarter-inch fillet welds are specified on three sides where indicated.
